(Newswire.net — February 10, 2015) — Afton Elaine Burton, 27 years old became sort of celebrity when she start dating Charles Manson. The serial killer is serving multiple life sentences in a California prison. The couple told media that there is pure love between them. True love must be blind, however, as Burton expressed her devotion, not only to a man old enough to be her grandfather, but to a notorious sociopath who doesn’t possess any emotions.
Late in 2014, Manson received permission to marry Burton, however, authorities wouldn’t allow him to consummate the marriage. In the latest development, the couple may split up.
The media reported that Manson now suspects that his soon to be wife actually is after the money, planning to profit from his body – literally.
The 80-year-old Manson somehow found out that his young girlfriend is planning to earn money by displaying his embalmed body as a tourist attraction.
According to journalist Daniel Simone, 27-year old Afton Elaine Burton was hoping that after becoming a Manson’s wife she would gain possession of his corpse, so she and a couple of friends could put it on display in a glass case in Los Angeles.
They apparently thought the Manson’s body would draw a huge number of visitors and make a lot of money, just like the Lenin’s embalmed body which draws thousands of tourists every day.
The imprisoned Manson, however, didn’t like the plan. “He’s finally realized that he’s been played for a fool,” Simone told The NY Post.
The tourist attraction was also something of a non-starter because Manson believes he is immortal. “He feels he will never die,” Simone added. “Therefore, he feels it’s a stupid idea to begin with,” Simone said.
Manson and Burton’s marriage license expired on Thursday, though Burton apparently remains hopeful that it will be renewed.
It remains unclear if Burton is aware that preserving a body means a serious maintenance. The Lenin’s sarcophagus is kept at a constant temperature of 16° C (61° F) and humidity of 80 – 90 percent. Every week a mild bleach is used to fight discoloring fungus and mold on Lenin’s skin, and every eighteen months the corpse undergoes a chemical bath of glycerol and potassium for thirty days while the mausoleum is closed. During this time, Lenin’s clothes are washed and carefully ironed. And every three years, Lenin receives a new suit.
