(Newswire.net — January 11, 2016) –It started in 2002 in New York, when seven members of humoristic improvisational group “Improv Everywhere,” known for their flash mobs, entered a subway wearing no pants.

Over time The No Pants Subway Ride has become an international celebration of silliness, a funny event around the world.

“Our goal is to make people laugh,” say those who have accepted to participate in this unusual event that is held every year in the first days of January. The date changes from year to year, and is announced in early December.

This year, The No Pants Subway Ride was on January 10th, and it was organized in over 60 world cities accross all continents except Antarctica.

The event looks something like this: random passengers enter the subway wearing coats, sweaters, gloves, hats, scarves… The only unusual thing is that they sport nothing but underwear on the lower half of their bodies.

The participants behave as if they do not know each other, and among them there are men, women, young and old.

Most of them read books, magazines, use their mobile phones, laptops… they behave normally, acting as if they didn’t notice they didn’t have their bottoms on.

Subway riders who did not know what was going on were mostly surprised, while some did not find pantelss riders amusing. Officials in countries like Latvia, banned the nudism on the subway, but after the story hit the major the media, Latvians were allowed to participate in The No Pants Subway Ride.

Every year more participants join this bizzare event. In 2015, the 14th Annual No Pants Subway Ride took place on January 11th and included tens of thousands of participants in over 60 cities, spanning some 25 countries across the globe. More than 4,000 people were on the subway without pants in New York City alone.
