(Newswire.net — June 5, 2012) Huntington Beach, CA — On Monday Jason Johnson of Mesquite, Texas landed the largest ever measured Mako shark off the coast between Huntington Beach and Catalina.

Johnson was filming an Outdoor Channel show called “The Professionals” when he made the world record-breaking catch.

He took out a quarter-mile of line . . . and five times he came out of the water over 20 feet,” Johnston said. “It was amazing.”

The huge shark weighted in at 1,323.5 pounds and measured 11 feet long.

He added, “It’s unreal. This thing is definitely a killing machine. Any wrong step, I could have gone out of the boat and down to the bottom of the ocean.”

Johnston and his crew were fishing with Mako Matt’s and Breakaway Charters out of Huntington Beach when they caught the fish.

It was pretty wild. This one came up wanting to kill every single thing in its sight. It was bite, bite, bite, every direction,” fellow angler Corey Knowlton said.

The monster shark will be donated to research.
