OAB Medication Raises Risk of Alzheimer’s

(Newswire.net — January 28, 2015) St. Petersburg, Florida — Alzheimer’s can now be added to the list of side effects added to taking Overactive Bladder medication. A recent study published in JAMA on January 26th, 2015 titled “Cumulative Use of Strong Anticholinergics and Incident Dementia” was released online.  In it 3434 participants 65 years or older with no dementia at the start of it was studied. It was concluded that, “Higher cumulative anticholinergic use is associated with an increased risk for dementia.”

“Of the drugs named in the study, an increased risk of dementia was seen in people taking at least…5mg a day of oxybutynin (Ditropan) for an overactive bladder for at least three years.”   But, according to RXlist.com the common side effects of Ditropan include, “Dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, dry eyes, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, headache, unusual taste in mouth, dry/flushed skin, and weakness.”  Even the FDA’s added list of side effects did not include any mention of Alzheimer’s.

Justin Mandel, DOM AP the inventor of the patented Bladder RE-EXPANSION Technique® rehabilitation procedure had this to say about the study, “It’s not surprising to me that there’s a major health risk involved from taking Ditropan for Overactive Bladder.  The simple truth is that no one should need to get Alzheimer’s from taking any kind of medication to try to improve their health condition, whatever it may be.

This in my opinion is medicine gone 100% wrong.  Real health and healing don’t happen by adding on a brand new degenerative condition on top of a completely separate condition, which further deteriorates ones health.  Consumers have a choice when it comes to getting help with their Overactive Bladder or any other condition for that fact.  It’s risky to take medication because we don’t know what kind of side effects we’ll experience.  And this new study that was released in JAMA demonstrates exactly that.
