Van Andel announced his retirement early in order to create a seamless transition for the family-owned company, which is headquartered near Ada Township, Michigan. His goal in doing so is grounded in the company’s history, which has not experienced many high-level transitions in its executive team since its founding in 1959 by Steve’s father, Jay Van Andel, and the current co-CEO Doug DeVos.
