UTI Can Lead to Erectile Dysfunction

(Newswire.net — February 23, 2018) Cheyenne, Wyoming — The two most dreaded words for a man is “erectile dysfunction,” just saying it around a male causes them to wince or cringe on the inside but it’s a real possibility associated with a urinary tract infection (UTI). Men over 50 are most prone to developing the double whammy of a UTI which leads to an erectile dysfunction, however, men of any age who are sexually active are at a high risk as well. Multiple sex partners is also a factor that skyrockets the chances of contraction, so does poor hygiene as UTIs are caused by a bacteria common in feces.

“UTIs develop when bacteria that is produced by the bowels, which is commonly found on the skin near the rectum, makes its way into the urethra,” explains EDQuestions.com. “Once this bacteria has wormed its way into the penis, swelling of the bladder and of the kidney can occur, leading to pain and trouble urinating. To add insult to injury, a UTI actually can snowball into full blown erectile dysfunction. This is because a UTI can cause swelling in and around the penis, which can lead to functions that the penis depends on, such as constant blood flow for an erection, to be affected.”

This issue plays out like a psychological horror movie for men as the usual rush of blood they enjoy for sex is no longer being supplied due to inflammation. Nipping the matter in the bud and as early as possible is the best way of containing its effects with the hopes of never having to deal with a future UTI.

“The UTI can independently affect and cause impotence in men, especially those in their old age apart from which it is also dependent on the severity of LUTI,” says UTIresource.com. “Such a cause to impotence makes it important for men with sexual dysfunction to be checked for LUTI. Sexual issues should also be considered for men suffering from benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate).”

Unsurprisingly, the prostate gland is typically affected whenever a UTI is contracted, which makes passing urine a painful challenge or downright impossible at times.

“Preclinical evidence suggests that several common pathophysiological mechanisms are involved in the development of both erectile dysfunction (ED) and lower urinary tract symptoms/infections (LUTS/LUTI),” discloses The National Institutes of Health. “We recommend that patients seeking consultation for one condition should always be screened for the other condition. Prescribing physicians should be aware of the sexual adverse effects of many treatments currently recommended for LUTS; sexual function should be evaluated prior to commencement of treatment, and monitored throughout treatment to ensure that the choice of drug is appropriate.”

It has been found that erectile dysfunction and urinary tract infections have a close relationship so men need to be vigilant about their genital affairs. A urine sample ought to be tested as soon as possible if it’s suspected that there might be an issue with urinating or anything surrounding the area and the at home DIY HealthyWiser™ Urinary Tract Infection Test Strips are ideal for the job.
