(Newswire.net — March 19, 2018) — Don’t you hate it when you go to the salon to have your hair dyed, only to have the color fade after two weeks? This fading commonly happens that some go to the salon to have their hair retouched once or twice a month. Not only is it hard on the pockets and time-consuming, but it also increases your exposure to harmful chemicals.

According to the National Cancer Institute, there are over 5,000 different chemicals used in hair dyes. Fret not as there are alternatives you can easily find in your pantry to naturally color your hair. While henna is a popular choice, here are other things you can make use of:

“Coffee, please?”

As they say, “Everything gets better with coffee”. You can use them not just as a pick-me-upper in the morning but also to make that grey hair darker! Just brew a very strong coffee, let it sit until it comes down to room temperature. Wash your hair with shampoo, rinse it, and slowly pour the coffee into your hair. Massage it into your roots and wait for 20 minutes before rinsing again. It’s best when you use a shower cap to seal in the color. Repeat this once or twice a week, depending on how dark you want to go.

“Oh, honey!”

Everything in life gets sweeter with honey! Who wouldn’t like a taste of this natural sweetener in their food and drinks? Some use it on their face, some on their hair. It naturally contains hydrogen peroxide, a natural bleaching ingredient. Add a little bit of cinnamon and you can turn your dirty blonde to golden blonde! Mix honey, cinnamon, and olive oil and massage it on your hair. Wait for about an hour or two before rinsing it with conditioner. Remember to use a blonde shampoo to give the shine of your hair a boost.

“It’s Tea-o-clock!”

Brew chamomile tea to achieve golden highlights or use black tea to naturally cover grey hairs. Although the results will not be drastic, you can let the high-concentrated tea sit on your hair for hours or even overnight for better results. Just use two cups of water with three to five teabags. Let it cool and mix it with your favorite conditioner. Here’s an extra tip – do this while the sun is up as it seals the color better on your locks!

“Beet it”

Beetroot juice is a potent natural hair dye. Depending on what shade you want to achieve, you can mix beet juice with carrot juice to achieve a reddish orange color. The more beet juice you use, the redder the color will be. On the other hand, carrot juice produces a soft orange hue. Just add one cup of juice to your hair, mix it with coconut oil, and massage it to your locks. Let it sit for an hour, rinse, and seal it with an apple cider vinegar spray.

Ready to make the color of your locks more vibrant? Try any of the above ingredients and save on a trip to the salon for hair color retouching.
