(Newswire.net — April 23, 2018) Wilmington, DELAWARE — Art therapy has long been thought to be therapeutic for all types of people with different situations, problems or medical conditions.  It also has a potential to help those who are struggling with mental conditions.

Art therapy could potentially help fight mental illness. There are many people from around the world today who actually find relief by engaging in art activities. Art has long been believed to be extremely therapeutic both for the audience and the artist.

Today, consumers do not have to possess a particular level of skill or experience just to engage in art. Art therapy provides people with the opportunity to express themselves with all the freedom they need.

The University of Granada conducted a study recently that suggested art therapy could aid in the treatment of mental disease.

According to Elizaberta Perez, this study is based on psychoanalysis principles. Perez worked at the Therapeutic Community of the Northern Area of the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital of Granada for over a year with 20 acute mental patients.

The patients voluntarily attended sessions of two days a week where they adapted paintings of certain artists, and contributed their own visions. These artists are Amedeo Modigliani, Edvard Munch, and Vincent Van Gogh.

They were made to utilize their paintings for projecting repressed feelings, desires, and emotions coming from their minds and hearts. The participants were able to lift these emotions and feelings to life or eliminate them as needed during the artistic process.

There are many people from around the world who turn to art therapy to cope with frustrations, stress, depression and other burdens. It has actually become an acceptable way of coping with mental health issues and improving physical and emotional well-being.

Some experts suggest that art therapy helps manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-awareness and self-esteem, and develop interpersonal skills. Art therapists, on the other hand, can help address trauma and loss, post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD), emotional difficulties, physical problems, cognitive problems and neurological problems.

Art therapy can be performed with or without a therapist. As a matter of fact, there are many who engage in it by simply using adult coloring books, which have been increasingly popular in the past years.

In addition to using adult coloring books, consumers should also choose the right coloring material, such as the Ultimate Gel Pen Collection from Tadkin. This set offers one hundred pens in 100 different colors, and even comes with an ergonomic packaging.
