Emerging Studies Suggest Overweight Young Men Are at Heightened Risk of Liver Disease

(Newswire.net — April 24, 2018) Orlando, FL — More and more young men nowadays carry excess weight. This is considered by many experts to be absolutely alarming, since obesity is linked with the onset of a range of medical conditions.

In a large study in Sweden, it was found that young overweight or obese men are twice more susceptible to liver disease later in life than their healthy-weight peers.

In the report researchers made in the Gut journal, they revealed that if they also have Type 2 diabetes, their liver disease risk is 3.3 times much higher by the time they reach middle age.

Past studies revealed that having diabetes increases the risk for liver disease and liver cancer.

In recent evidence, it was revealed that a high body mass index (BMI) is a risk factor on its own. It is worth mentioning that BMI is a measure of weight that is relative to the height.

The lead study author, Dr. Hannes Hagstrom, told Reuters Health by email that a high BMI early in life in men is linked with an increased risk of severe liver disease later in life. However, this can’t be due to a high alcohol consumption or viral hepatitis.

Hagstrom is a researcher with the Center for Digestive Diseases at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.

”Also, this risk was highly increased in those men who contracted type 2 diabetes during the follow-up, independent of the baseline BMI,” he added.

Researchers also found that men who were overweight at baseline were more at risk of liver cancer by 60 percent. In obese men, the risk tripled.

Today, more and more health experts strengthen their warning against obesity. Carrying extra pounds is generally considered to be a risk factor of a variety of diseases and disorders.

Karen Basen-Engquist told Reuters Health that obesity is an important risk factor for a number of types of cancer. Liver cancer is one of those.

The liver actually has its own self-repair mechanisms. However, it is imperative for people to ensure that they take the measures necessary in taking better care of it.

Following a healthy diet and lifestyle is essential to fight obesity and many other diseases. It may also be helpful for young men to consider the use of Divine Bounty Men’s Multivitamins.
