(Newswire.net — July 2, 2018) Orlando, FL — Depression can happen at some point in life for many people. However, it causes a daily struggle for individuals who suffer from certain medical conditions, like arthritis.

Experts reveal the link between depression and joint diseases. Joint diseases like arthritis cause pain and other debilitating symptoms. Sufferers are normally unable to function and do their daily routines due to these symptoms.

In many arthritis sufferers, being unable to work, function, and socialize leads to a variety of psychological issues, which includes depression. However, it could also be the other way around.

The researchers from the University of Basel and the Ruhr-University Bochum reported the findings of a study. It was found that individuals with depressive symptoms were more susceptible to having arthrosis, arthritis, and other physical diseases.

The results of the study were based on the data involving 14,300 individuals in Switzerland. These results were also published in the Frontiers in Public Health, which is a scientific journal.

According to research, depression is one of the top health risks and it actually affects 350 million individuals around the world. In Switzerland, about 400,000 people suffer from it every year.

In several studies in various countries worldwide, it has been found that depression is linked with an increased risk of different physical diseases.

Professor Gunther Meinlschmidt from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Basel and Faculty of Medicine at the Ruhr-University Bochum spearheaded a research study. The study attempted to determine the link between depressive symptoms and physical diseases.

It involved the data from the Swiss Health Survey, which comprises of 14,348 subjects who were 15 years and older.

According to the psychologists, the participants suffering from depressive symptoms experienced an elevated risk of having a physical disease. It is worth mentioning that roughly one third of the participants with depression suffered from at least one physical disease.

The investigators found that there was an evident association of depression and degenerative and inflammatory joint diseases, such as arthrosis and arthritis.

More studies are still underway to validate the association. However, it has been speculated that depressive symptoms normally trigger the lack of interest in performing physical activities, which could increase the risk of joint diseases. The researchers also suggest that it could be the other way around.

It is imperative for individuals with arthritis to exercise regularly. It is one of the best all-natural remedies in managing pain and improving their mobility.

Arthritis sufferers may turn to the use of joint health enhancing supplements like glucosamine. One brand to consider is Divine Bounty Glucosamine supplement, which is believed to be gaining an increasing popularity in the international market.
