Recent Study Has Revealed Link Between Sleep Quality and Fear

(Newswire.net — July 19, 2018) Orlando, FL — Health experts have long been reminding consumers to get a decent sleep on a daily basis. Sleep has many influences inside the body, and the lack of quality sleep is associated with certain emotions.

Researchers found that sleep quality has a role to play on how the brain responds to fear. This in turn is believed to determine the likelihood of a person to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The findings of the study were published in the Journal of Neuroscience.

Scientists discovered that in those with more rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, there was less activity in the brain areas associated with fear during a frightening event. This was compared with those who had less REM sleep.

This suggests that REM sleep may aid in keeping fear levels low. It is done through altering how some areas of the brain communicate with one another.

This also means that one day scientists may be able to use one’s REM-sleep measurements to foresee that person’s resiliency to trauma. It could also be used in determining the likelihood of PTSD after a traumatic event.

Anne Germain, while not involved in the research, has said that the study is a great first step in understanding the mechanism of resilience.

Germain is an associate professor of psychiatry and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

The study involved 17 healthy college students. Their sleep was tracked at home in a duration of five to thirteen days. This was done to establish baseline sleep patterns, which include levels of flight, deep and REM sleep.

It is important to remember that lack of sleep has also been associated with many health disadvantages. This is why many healthy experts strongly recommend resorting to the measures that can be helpful for sleep improvement.

In some studies, it has been found that sleep deprivation is associated with a range of symptoms and diseases. Many of these conditions are highly preventable through improving sleep quality and duration.

In addition to having a healthy diet and lifestyle, there are nutrients thought to be significantly helpful for sleep. This includes B vitamins that have long been found to be essential for health.

Some of these water-soluble vitamins are found to be useful for sleep improvement. Purest Vantage B Vitamin Complex may be an excellent source of these nutrients.
