Website Protection From Spam and Spammers

(Newswire.net — October 4, 2018) — Nowadays, almost every website collides with a flurry of unwanted letters and spam. Robots are literally attacking corporate emails and websites, which is why you can sometimes miss valuable applications and notifications from those inside the organization. Unfortunately, by setting up captcha verification on the website, you risk losing loyalty and annoying 90% of users. Therefore, we offer you four simple ways to protect online resources from spam through inverse forms.

Method 1. Hidden Field

With this approach, an open field (hidden from the user’s review) is added to the form, and if the field is filled out with data, then the user is considered a robot, and the info from the form is not sent. We would like to note that now the bots are becoming smart: they perfectly recognize types and field names like “spam” and “antispam” and fill out fields accordingly. As a rule, bots scan for the name, phone, and message fields (since in most forms, these fields are mandatory). Therefore, using this method, it is recommended that the hidden field has a set type “tel,” “name,” or is used as such textarea. Nevertheless, hidden field is considered to be  the best anti-spam solution, such as antispam by cleantalk offered online.

Method 2. Check-Box

You can add a checkbox where a user can confirm that he is not a robot. Thus, you can differentiate your audience and prevent cases with excessive spam on your online resource.

Method 3. Substitution

Instead of the standard button type “submit,” you can use an indent with a different value, for example, “image” or any of the relevant tags. The main thing here is to use a relevant tag; otherwise, you risk being detected by smart bots.

Method 4: Create a Dynamic Form

The form is completely created by the javascript method dynamically. With this option, only the user who has loaded this javascript (together with the page) sees the form of sending the data.

Method 5. Tracking Time

You can filter out users performing strange activities on your website, for example, when submitting the form in less than 3 seconds from the time you enter the page. In this case, it is most likely a bot submitting spam through your form.

Method 6: Special Services

It is very easy to use specialized services for filtering out spam. You just need to register, add a special code to your website, and voila – robots are filtered out! The main disadvantages of following this approach can be attributed to the fact that IP-addresses are used to determine robots, that is, if the robot has not previously sent out mailings from this address, you will not be able to define spam.

Method 7. Hybrid Approach

Perhaps, mixing several different methods of combating spam into one is the most effective approach. For example, if a user submits a form too quickly or his IP address is in the spam list of bots, then you are to use captcha for determining what type of user it is.

Final Say

In conclusion, we would like to point out that it is difficult to block all spam emails at 100% rate. But you can reduce them to a minimum so that spa does not interfere with the regular email and business communication.
