Vitamin B3 Could Possibly Prevent Brain Damage

(Newswire.net — October 30, 2018) Orlando, FL — Researchers have been conducting studies to explore things that could aid in protecting brain health. There are nutrients found to be potentially helpful in fighting diseases that affect the brain.

According to scientists, vitamin B3 was able to prevent brain damage in mice. They further suggest it could be possibly useful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

In the United States, it has been estimated that 5.5 million people of all ages have Alzheimer’s disease.

It is hard to deny that its prevalence continues to sky-rocket. In 2017, it has been found that an estimated number of 5.3 million who were 65 years old and above have the condition.

The researchers were jointly led by Dr. Vilhelm A. Bohr, the chief of the National Institute on Aging’s (NIA) Laboratory of Molecular Gerontology, and Dr. Yujun Hou, a postdoctoral investigator in the laboratory.

They were also accompanied by Dr. Yujun Hou, a postdoctoral investigator in the laboratory.

The scientists focused on the manner in which a form of vitamin B3 affected the brain’s DNA-repair abilities. This is a function identified to be compromised in cases of Alzheimer’s disease.

The findings of the study were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal.

The subject mice in the study had Alzheimer’s-related brain damage. It is worth mentioning that when there is impairment in the brain’s DNA-repairing ability, it also results in the dysfunction in the cells’ mitochondria.

According to investigators, this in turn leads to neuronal dysfunction and lower neuron production.

They found that vitamin B3 was able to promote neuronal and cognitive health. The vitamin-B3-treated mice had less DNA damage and the levels of the protein tau in the brain.

They further had more neuroplasticity, which pertains to the brain’s ability to rewire itself. This is in cases when it stores new memories, learns new things, or becomes damaged.

Dr. Richard J. Hodes, director of the NIA, as he commented on the results of the study, said that the pursuit of interventions to prevent or delay Alzheimer’s and related dementias is an important national priority.

Vitamin B3 and some other B vitamins have been widely studied due to their potentially powerful health benefits. More studies are still underway to validate B3’s effects on the brain.

However, many experts strongly recommend ensuring the body has adequate levels of this nutrient. It can be obtained from food, but there are also supplements available like Purest Vantage B Vitamin Complex.

It contains Choline, Pantothenic acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, and vitamin B6.
