(Newswire.net — December 21, 2018) — The US President confirmed the suspicions that Mattis’s days in the administration were “numbered”.
Mattis will be just one in a long line of Washington officials who did not endure until the end of Trump’s mandate. It is not known who will replace Mattis, nor did the soon to be former Defense secretary disclose what will his next move be since he announced that he will remain in politics.
President Trump needs a Defense secretary who is more in line with his own opinion, Mattis wrote in his resignation letter.
“Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position,” the resignation letter reads.
It is not a secret that General Mattis criticized many of Trumps decisions, especially pulling back US troops from Syria, which is recognized as Russian victory. The truth is, however, that the US president just closed a tap that was draining billions of dollars from US tax payers by supporting a revolution that is doomed to fail given it was started over the wrong reasons. Behind overthrowing the “dictator” Assad, stand “freedom fighters” that fight for democracy in the region.
It was later discovered that many of the “moderate rebels” who tried to overthrow Syrian President Assad have in fact close ties with the Islamic State (former ISIS or ISIL).
General Mattis, however, never hid his ideas that Syria was an important strategic point towards Iran and a government that is controlled by Washington is of great importance. Now, with Trump sending US soldiers home, Mattis was left with bitterness he couldn’t cope with.
Mattis resigned in order to point out that he “treated the US allies with respect” and that he used all means of American power to provide a joint defense.
“My views on treating allies with respect and also being clear-eyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors are strongly held and informed by over four decades of immersion in these issues,” Gen Mattis wrote in his letter.
To recall, General Matis, criticized Obama for being “naive” about Iranian intentions and Congress for being “pretty much absent” on the nuclear deal. Highly decorated Marine General Mattis earned the nickname “Mad Dog” from the press after he made comments such as “be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet” and “a good soldier follows orders, but a true warrior wears his enemy’s skin like a poncho.”
The outgoing Defense Secretary also says Trump isn’t hard enough on Russia and China, writing that “we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach” to them.
