(Newswire.net — October 1, 2019) Orlando, FL — Health organizations have been warning people from around the world to get adequate amounts of sleep. However, it stays true that many end up being unable to sleep at night due to work.

Scientists conducted a study that was published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. This is the journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

They suggested that working the night shift is associated with a number of health problems. This includes sleep disorders, heart disease, obesity, and even cancer.

In the study, the investigators found that women on a night shift have an increased risk of cancer by 19 percent over women who don’t work at night.

This research was an analysis of 61 studies that included almost four million people from Asia, North America, and Australia.

They has also found that women whose night shifts involved longer periods of time had higher risk of skin cancer by 41 percent, 32 percent of breast cancer, and 18 percent of digestive system cancer risk.

It is important to mention that the highest risk was among nurses who worked at night shifts. In nurses, there was a 58 percent higher risk of breast cancer in those who worked night shifts on a long term basis over those without night shifts.

The senior author of the paper is Xuelei Ma, assistant professor at Sichuan University.

Some factors are found to contribute to the higher risk of certain cancers in those who work night shifts. This includes disruptions in their hormone levels.

According to researchers, melatonin levels are suppressed when the body remains awake under artificial light. It is worth mentioning that melatonin levels normally increase at night in response to darkness.

Cancer is highly prevalent nowadays. It is an incurable condition that can be prevented through certain measures.

There are natural remedies believed to be helpful against the condition, and one is called resveratrol.

According to research, this powerful antioxidant could deeply penetrate the nucleus of a cell. This permits DNA to repair damage cause by free radicals that might otherwise contribute to the growth of cancer.

In addition to being an antioxidant, resveratrol also has strong anti-inflammatory agents. These anti-inflammatories aid in preventing certain enzyme formations, which may trigger the development of tumor.

What makes it even more interesting is that it could halt the progression of cancer cell growth. Resveratrol is actually being studied by many other health benefits it could offer.
