Dentist Aims To Set Record: Town With The Whitest Teeth

(Newswire.net — October 25, 2019) Richardson, TX —  A Dallas area dentist is creating a plan to help his Texas hometown earn the title, “Town With The Whitest Teeth”. Earlier this month, Dr. Bobby Jivnani, DDS of Richardson, TX launched a program offering free professional custom teeth whitening to all new dental patients in the area. The teeth whitening program has quickly flooded Jivnani’s practice with a backlog of requests.

“We didn’t realize there would be such a response,” said a representative with the practice. “But we’re excited so many people are so enthusiastic about this. We joked with each other, ‘hey, maybe we should turn this into a teeth whitening challenge and get everyone in town in here and then we’d have the record for the town with the whitest smiles!” He continued, “A few days later the idea seemed like less of a joke and we were throwing around ideas about how we might actually pull it off.”

As is, the challenge does not fit guidelines for submission to Guinness World Records. So Dr. Jivnani and his team are looking into alternative ways to document the rights (even if self-proclaimed) to the bright smile title for their suburban town. Some have suggested they establish the challenge on social media based platforms where Richardson patients could certify that they’ve participated by showing off their newly brightened pearly whites. 

For now, and until Dr. Jivnani and his team have figured out the logistics of the public challenge, early supporters are enthusiastically raising their hands by filling out the form at the doctor’s interim Richardson Teeth Whitening registration page. “The crazy part of all this,” continued the practice spokesman who was quoted earlier, “is that we’re seeing people who have been putting off getting a proper cleaning for a long time. But when they hear about the whitening protocol, then they’re actually eager to come in. They’re saying, ‘when’s the soonest I can get an appointment?’”

Current U.S. Census data places Richardson’s population at 120,981. So, if successful, Dr. Jivnani might have to recruit some associate dentists to help if even a fraction opt in to the challenge. 

Dr. Jivnani’s teeth whitening protocol is a far cry from any consumer kit you can buy over the counter at your local CVS. Most patients need to undergo a professional dental cleaning before it is recommended that they start the whitening procedure. Next, the doctor creates a custom impression of the patient’s upper and lower teeth with a special dental plaster. After that, a clear soft plastic tray is made based on the patient’s impression for both the upper and lowers which holds a medical grade gel in place over the teeth. Because the trays are made exactly to the shape of every tooth, the gel is able to distribute evenly over the teeth. The combination of the custom tray and the strength of the whitening gel which can only be distributed by a professional means very white teeth in short order and with better results than any consumer grade product. 

Dr. Bobby Jivnani, DDS is a native of Richardson and attended Richardson High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Dallas with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a Bachelor of Arts in economics. Then he attended Baylor College of Dentistry and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
