(Newswire.net — November 15, 2019) Orlando, FL — More and more people are increasingly conscious about their health and aim to improve their lifestyle. It is important to remember that not all longevity tips are true and effective.

Dr. Howard S. Friedman, professor of psychology at the University of California at Riverside and co-author of The Longevity Project reveals the popular myths about longevity.

According to Dr. Friedman, health risks are not totally random, and protective shields do not occur in isolation – in other words, many individuals made their own luck.

It has been believed that love can sustain one physiologically and emotionally. However, Dr. Friedman suggests that love is not crucial to longevity.

Another myth is that women are programmed to outlive men. The professor reveals that men – and women – whose outlook and behavior are “masculine” tend to die before their more “feminine” counterparts.

“The gender gap in longevity isn’t all based on the Y (male) chromosome,” he added. “Empathy and emotional connections are also key.”

There are other myths like married people live longer, which Dr. Friedman believes to be untrue.

Today, more and more scientists are investigating the use of natural remedies like resveratrol for longevity.

According to some studies, resveratrol has a great potential to prevent degenerative diseases as well as metabolic conditions.

Scientists have found resveratrol has genetic influences. In some studies, it was able to exhibit its ability to influence gene expression, and its anti-aging benefits.

It has been found that mitochondrial oxidative stress as well as consequential free radical reactions play a role in advanced aging of cells. Further, longevity is linked with resistance to oxidative stress.

It is worth mentioning that caloric restriction has long been known to increase life span. Resveratrol has been found to exhibit the anti-aging protection of mitochondria, which is a benefit similar to caloric restriction.

Researchers have found it was able to place a temporary hold on the cell cycle. It has been able to do so by pausing at a stage that allows DNA repair. This leads to the repair of an increased number of damaged genes.

In 2003, Harvard University conducted a study and found that through the use of resveratrol, cells were able to live longer.

The investigators found that resveratrol increased longevity in yeast cells by as much as 70 percent.

While more studies are still underway to validate its longevity benefits, resveratrol is widely used nowadays.
