Fish Oil Believed to Have Some Teeth-Saving Effects

Dr. Alison Coates from the University of South Australia reviewed eight studies. Based on her research, she suggests that fish oil has the ability to help enhance dental health specially associated with gum disease. 

Omega-3s can be found in various food sources, particularly fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, halibut, and herring. These healthy fats are believed to be the best compounds for dental health due to the fact that they can reduce the risks of gum disease. 

The Harvard University scientists analyzed the eating habits of about 9,200 adults and gum disease. It was found that those with diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids experienced a risk reduction of gum disease by 23 to 30 percent. 

While omega-3 fats can be obtained by eating certain food items, they can also be consumed through supplementation. Omega-3 fat supplements are widely available in the international market today.
