(Newswire.net— May 6, 2020) — The Russian Embassy in the US ridiculed this year’s Pulitzer Prize given to the New York Times for a series of “Russophobic” articles.
In an announcement on Facebook, the Embassy said that such criticism of Russia “only damages the reputation of the newspaper” that published the articles, reports TASS.
“We consider this series of articles by the New York Times about Russia as an excellent collection of undiluted Russophobic fabrications that can be studied as a guide for creating false facts,” Russia’s Embassy in Washington DC wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Three years ago, the Pulitzer Prize was awarded to the New York Times for the demonization of Russia. Such ‘art’ is apparently periodically awarded, the Russian embassy tweeted. “The award committee has a great responsibility, pointing out anti-Russian materials with allegations not only by Russian officials but by life itself,” the Embassy writes.
The Pulitzer Prize committee’s website states that the New York Times has received the Foreign Policy Report Award for a series of articles on alleged illegal actions taken by Russia.
The New York Times said it has been rewarded for “detailed reporting on Russia’s international impact” following Moscow’s alleged efforts to influence the 2016 US presidential election. Russia’s meddling in the US elections was debunked as a false accusation, however, Hilary Clinton still blames Russia for her loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.
The New York Times and the Pulitzer panel also confused readers with an award for the Times’ controversial ‘1619 Project’ – a long-form reframing of American history as “racist,” adamantly claiming that black Americans, and not the Founding Fathers, shaped US democracy as we know it, Russia Today reports.
The historical accuracy of the project has been questioned, however, along with accusations of asserting readers with such ideas as that slavery directly caused the 2008 financial crash, or that modern medicine is rooted in 17th-century racial prejudices.
Founded in 1851, the New York Times has won 130 Pulitzer Prizes, more than any other newspaper.
