(Newswire.net — July 15, 2020) Orlando, FL — Certain medications are necessary in the management of diabetes. While these pharmaceutical drugs are useful, it is worth realizing that some have been found to produce some side effects.

A new study has shown that a specific class of diabetes drug seems to double the risk of leg or foot amputation.

This study was carried out by Scandinavian researchers. It is worth noting that they also doubled their risk of diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a life-threatening complication. It occurs when acids called ketones accumulate in the bloodstream.

According to lead researcher Dr. Peter Ueda, patients at high risk of amputation, for example those with peripheral artery disease or foot ulcers, might be monitored more closely if SGLT2 inhibitors are used.

Dr. Ueda is a postdoctoral researcher with Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.

“The risk of this adverse event may be considered when deciding on which drugs to use,” he adds.

The findings were published Nov. 14 in the journal BMJ.

While more research studies are still being carried out to learn about the side effects of diabetes drugs, it is worth mentioning that experts strongly recommend some preventive tricks against this disease.

The good news is that some scientifically-backed spices like turmeric have been found to work wonders in fighting diabetes.

A review was published in the Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

In this research, the investigators complied over 13 years of research involving the link in between diabetes and curcumin. They suggest that curcumin was able to exert various mechanisms in helping those with diabetes.

Curcumin is a phytochemical that can be found in turmeric, and has been shown to possess a range of healing benefits.

It works wonders in helping control blood sugar levels, and this is based on tests involving animal models.

What makes curcumin even more beneficial is that it has a great potential to inhibit the development of diabetes. Studies reveal that in individuals with prediabetes, curcumin aided in stopping the onset of diabetes.

A study was published in Diabetes Care.

In this research, the scientists treated individuals with curcumin for a period of 9 months. It has been found they were less likely to have a full-blown condition. It is further worth mentioning that this therapeutic phytochemical may also aid in preventing diabetes complications.

Today, the use of curcumin is highly recommended via supplementation. Divine Bounty Curcumin is one of the supplements many consumers turn to in obtaining the healing goodness of the phytochemical (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
