(Newswire.net — August 12, 2020) — “You are what you drive” is a very popular saying around our parts. Meaning your personality is partially defined by the car you choose to drive. Obviously in many occasions that is the car you can afford to drive, but the choice you made within your budget limits can still tell a lot about who you are.

In our everlasting quest of finding America’s favorite cars, today we tackle the essence of “coolness” itself. Does your age determine which car you are going to drive? Is the cool car from 3 decades ago still cool today? And do we still prefer to buy American made cars? To answer all these questions we have partnered with Pretected.com who are one of the leading insurance comparison websites in the US.

Baby boomers (56-74)

Let’s start with the baby boomers – everyone who was born between 1946 to 1964.
Living through most of our history’s recent events, you can count on the baby boomers to know how to recognise a solid vehicle, a mixture of price and performance. Keeping that in mind, it is not surprising to see that the favorite car manufacturer for baby boomers is the good old Ford Motor Company. The 1903 founded American automaker from Detroit.

Coming in second and third place for baby boomer’s favorite car makers are Chevrolet and Toyota. Chevrolet is another classic American car manufacturer established in 1911. Notice that both favorite car makers are over 100 years old. Toyota (established in 1937), is the largest automobile manufacturer in Japan, and the second-largest in the world behind Volkswagen.

Adults (22-55)

With adult drivers in the US we see the same two manufacturers battling for the number one spot. Only this time, Chevrolet have been able to take the lead and are the 2020 favorite automaker with adults in the US. Maybe they inherited the same taste in cars from their parents, or maybe these two classic American automakers have just been producing a superior product for decades.

In third place and very close to the top two, we find Toyota who have apparently been able to penetrate the US market very efficiently giving the american manufacturers a good race for their business.

Teens & New Drivers (16-21)

Maybe the most surprising piece of information comes from the new drivers on Pretected. While taking a break from making Tik Tok videos and Chatting on SnapChat, the new drivers have been able to dethrone the two leading american manufacturers and make Toyota their favorite car.

The Japanese automaker has been able to break the older generation dominance and solidify themselves as the choice of the younger generation. Maybe this is a hint to the globalization of consumption that we see with younger shoppers. Younger people are straying away from limiting themselves to locally produced items and are viewing the world as a global marketplace where price and quality will determine purchases.

Conclusion

When making a serious purchase like buying a vehicle, most of us want to be reassured by buying a well known and personally familiar brand. Preferably one that has a long history of making reliable vehicles. That is why most of us gather around the same brands. But we do see a huge opportunity for large global manufacturers to win the heart of new drivers, and become America’s favorite car.

The information is based on millions of drivers using Pretected.com to compare auto insurance rates.
