(Newswire.net — August 24, 2020) — Kellyanne Conway has announced that she will be leaving her post as senior white house advisor at the end of August.
The advisor said that she was leaving the White House by ‘choice’ and is doing so to spend more time with her family. Her husband, George (an outspoken critic of the President), will also be stepping down from political activism.
In her announcement, Conway said that ‘This is completely my choice and my voice. In time, I will announce future plans. For now, and for my beloved children, it will be less drama, more mama.’
Interestingly, this resignation comes just hours after one of Conway’s daughters, Claudia (15), tweeted that her mother’s job had ‘ruined her life’. Her tweet went viral over the weekend, stating: ‘my mother’s job ruined my life to begin with. heartbreaking that she continues to go down that path after years of watching her children suffer. selfish. it’s all about money and fame, ladies and gentlemen.’
Kellyanne Conway has been one of Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters. She was the first woman to manage a successful presidential campaign. However, she has always been a controversial figure, and is well known for arguing with journalists in defence of the President. One of the most famous and controversial moments was when she used the phrase ‘alternative facts’ to describe then White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s highly questioned figures about the number of people attending Mr Trump’s inauguration.
Conway has also often found herself caught between her support for the President and her husband. Mr Conway has just stepped down from the Lincoln project, a committee formed by Republicans, whose goal is to prevent the re-election of Trump. Mr Conway has publicly bad-mouthed Trump, calling him ‘incompetent’. Trump, in his usual form, slated Mr Conway on twitter, calling him a ‘stone-called loser.’
Kellyanne Conway’s announcement means that she will be resigning just two months before election day. This could cause a serious issue for Donald Trump. The latest polls already show that Biden currently has a 10% lead over Trump.
How is Trump doing in the polls?
Biden currently holds a stable lead in the opinion polls, according to Real Clear Polls. These polls are a lot more clear than they were in 2016, where just a few points separated Clinton and Trump. However, due to the fact that America has an electoral college system, winning the most votes doesn’t necessarily mean you win the election, as Clinton found out four years ago.
There are battleground states, however, where the way the state votes will determine who will win and lose the election. At the moment, the polls in the battleground states also look to be favourable for Mr Biden. Out of the fourteen states, Biden seems to be leading in ten of them. However, Trump is still not out of the running, with some betting sites giving him a one in three chance of winning the election this November.
It remains to be seen how Kellyanne Conway’s resignation will affect President Trump’s campaign.
