The newly launched Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes at Northwest Fighting Arts aim to provide students with the confidence needed to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an excellent self-defense martial art and combat sport centered around ground fighting, grappling and submission holds. Unlike other forms of martial arts, this training places emphasis on form and technique over speed and strength.

Northwest Fighting Arts provides comprehensive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes to Portland students, regardless of their fitness level, age or gender.

Their classes are designed to help students to successfully defend themselves against bigger and stronger opponents. Students will also achieve a deeper understanding of their body and learn how to be confident during unpredictable situations both in the gym and in life.

This sport is also beneficial to the student’s overall wellness, including mental clarity and function.

Professor Jeff Patterson of Northwest Fighting Arts has been teaching martial arts since 1988. He can teach a variety of classes, including Muay Thai, Western boxing, Jeet Kune Do, several Filipino Arts, and many more.

In addition, the professor has trained fighters in Western boxing, Muay Thai, MMA and Jiu jitsu, as well as students who have gone on to fight in the UFC.

With the recent announcement, the team at Northwest Fighting Arts strive to help students identify their physical and mental strengths and limitations, and also enable them to protect themselves.

A satisfied student said: “Started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a year ago and have had nothing but a great experience. Staff is super knowledgeable and helpful. If you are looking to train in any martial art in a friendly and non judgmental atmosphere this is the place. Highly recommend it.”
