Research Warns Against the Life Quality Effects of Itchiness in Cases of Kidney Disease

(Newswire.net — March 1, 2021) Orlando, FL — Conditions like chronic kidney disease (CKD) are widely researched by scientists today. Some studies look into the therapeutic effects of certain drugs while others focus on the effects of its symptoms on the lives of sufferers.

Roughly 1 in 7 adults or 15 percent of the adult population in the United States suffer from CKD. It is worth realizing that this actually equates to an estimated number of 37 million people.

It is also important to realize that every year, more than 3,500 kidneys are surgically discarded. In 2016, it has been found that 726,331 people in America had kidney failure. They were further found to need dialysis or a kidney transplant.

Statistics further reveal that still in 2016, over 215,000 Americans lived with a kidney transplant. Further, it has been found about 1 in 2 individuals with extremely low kidney function are unaware they have CKD.

A study was published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN).

In this research, the investigators found that itchy skin or pruritus affects a substantial percentage of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Further, the investigators suggest that patients are more susceptible to experiencing pruritus, which in turn affects quality of life and sleep.

Nidhi Sukul, MD, from the University of Michigan and her colleagues carried out the study. They provided questionnaires to US, Brazilian, and French patients with stages 3-5 CKD.

It is further worth noting that this study involved a total of 3,780 patients. It has been found that the prevalence of moderate-to-extreme pruritus was around 24 percent. Further, it was more likely in older patients, females, as well as those with non-dialysis stage 5 CKD, lung disease, diabetes, and physician-diagnosed depression.

This is just one of the studies looking into some aspects of kidney disease. There are also researches that investigate into the potential remedies that could help increase kidney health and protection.

The use of probiotics is one of these widely-studied remedies. According to researchers, some probiotic microorganisms can use uric acid, urea, and creatinine as well as other toxins as nutrients for growth.

In previous research studies, scientists have been stressing the importance of probiotics in kidney health.

According to researchers, impaired and overloaded kidneys can result in the buildup of poisonous wastes in the bloodstream.

What probiotic microorganisms do is multiply and metabolize larger quantities of uremic toxins. This facilitates the increased diffusion of these toxins from the circulating blood into the bowel across the lining of the intestinal walls.

Scientists encourage more studies to look into the therapeutic goodness of probiotics for kidney health. However today, the use of these beneficial bacteria is widespread for a range of medicinal purposes.

Formulas like Divine Bounty Digestive Enzymes may be a beneficial source of the therapeutic goodness of probiotics (http://www.amazon.com/Digestive-Enzymes-Probiotics-90-Capsules/dp/B076MDX648).
