The “Have a Hero, Be a Hero, Plant a Tree” campaign was launched by Pacific Northwest sandwich chain Big Town Hero to collect donations from the community and help restore damaged Oregon forests.

Big Town Hero, a sandwich shop with locations in Oregon and Washington, launched its “Have a Hero, Be a Hero, Plant a Tree” campaign. The partnership with One Tree Planted will plant a tree in Oregon’s forests for every dollar its customers donate.

The newly launched campaign aims to make environmentalism accessible to everyone while raising money to rebuild Oregon’s forests.

The 2020 wildfire season was one of the most damaging to Oregon’s forests in recent history, burning over 350,000 acres of productive private timberland throughout the state. Forest fires and the damaged trees left behind release high levels of carbon into the atmosphere. One of the most effective ways to absorb this excess carbon is by planting seedlings.

To help in the effort to plant new trees, reduce carbon build-up and restore Oregon’s forests, Big Town Hero is collecting donations at each of its 11 locations. One tree will be planted in Oregon for every dollar donated. The One Tree Planted organization plants over 35 native tree species to rebuild and support the local ecosystem.

The simplicity of the one dollar, one tree model was a major factor in choosing One Tree Planted as a partner. Big Town Hero’s goal is to not only support a cause it believes in, but also to get the community involved and show its customers how impactful and accessible environmentalism can be.

Big Town Hero has been a locally-owned sandwich shop in the Pacific Northwest since 1981. The “Have a Hero, Be a Hero, Plant a Tree” campaign is the company’s latest effort to make community outreach a priority. Its franchise locations also support their communities by delivering leftover bread to local food banks at the end of the day and by donating lunches to support first responders and veterans.

“We are proud to be a local chain that supports local organizations,” said a spokesperson for the company. “With this partnership we plan to show the community how easy it is to make a difference by simply donating one dollar to plant one tree and help regenerate Oregon’s forests.”

Big Town Hero’s locations throughout Oregon and in Vancouver, Washington make handcrafted sandwiches with bread baked from scratch and fresh ingredients.
