Research Shows Garlic May Combat Antimicrobial Resistant UTIs

(Newswire.net — July 12, 2021) Orlando, FL — Around the globe, around 150 million people get a UTI diagnosis annually. It is the second most common infectious disease that leads to a total treatment cost in the billions of dollars.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are usually addressed through the use of antibiotics, which are medications that kill the UTI-causing culprit like the E.coli bacteria.

While these pharmaceutical drugs are useful, it is also important to note that their use is closely associated with side effects. These include antibiotic resistance, which experts largely consider to be a global health threat.

The good news is that there are ways to reduce the odds of having these side effects. The first is to avoid getting the infection to eliminate the need for antibiotics. Some studies also found that certain natural remedies may be helpful in offsetting the adverse effects linked with antibiotic use.

A study was carried out and published in the Pertanika Journal of Tropical Agricultural Science.

The findings of this research suggest that the use of garlic extract may be a strong weapon against multi-drug resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria associated with urinary tract infections (UTI).

This remarkable study was carried out by researchers at the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences in India.

According to the research team, even crude extracts of garlic showed good activity against multidrug-resistant strains where antibiotic therapy had limited or no effect. This provides hope for developing alternative drugs which may be of help in fighting the menace of growing antibacterial resistance.

To reiterate, UTIs are often addressed through the use of antibiotics. However, due to the emerging antimicrobial resistance, more and more experts are looking into traditional medicines or herbal products that may deliver alternative, safer solutions.

Intake of cranberry juice is a good example of these solutions. Cranberries have long been studied due to their UTI-fighting benefits.

Cranberry is widely popularized by the D-mannose it contains. It is worth noting that D-mannose is a therapeutic sugar that works in binding with E.coli, which causes about 90 percent of all UTI cases.

Today, this remedy is widely obtained through the use of certain formulas like Divine Bounty D-mannose. This extra-strength supplement is believed to be helpful in reducing the odds of infection.

It is also used widely by individuals who have recurrent infections. In addition to being highly potent and pure, this formula is also equipped with dandelion and cranberry extracts.

What makes it all the more beneficial is that it comes with a customer satisfaction guarantee.
