The newly updated program has been designed for students looking to become data scientists, statisticians, business analysts, modeling engineers, or those who want to apply data analytics tools in their work or business.

Research shows that 97% of companies with revenues over $100 million use analytics, but 42% of employers believe their employees lack the required analytics skills.

“Analytics: Essential Tools and Methods” is an interdisciplinary program that covers mathematics, statistics, programming, and various software tools and their use in data collection, storage, analysis, and visualization, including their practical application in a business context.

The program consists of 3 courses from Georgia Tech. The first course, “Introduction to Analytics Modeling”, takes 16 weeks and covers fundamental analytics models and methods, including statistical models and machine learning. Participants will learn to use models for clustering, data smoothing, validation, prediction, decision making, and more.

The second course is “Computing for Data Analysis”. This 15-week-long introduction to basic programming principles gives learners a hands-on experience using modern analytical tools, including Python, R, and SQL.

“Data Analytics for Business”, the 16-week-long final course of the program, focuses on the practical application of data analysis tools and using business data for making decisions. Practical examples will help students learn to apply proper techniques and avoid common pitfalls.

Students who successfully complete all three courses and earn a verified certificate in each will receive a MicroMasters certificate. The three courses are part of Georgia Tech’s full Online Master of Science in Analytics, and if a student is admitted to this program, up to 9 hours of credit can be applied towards the 36 hours required for this degree.

MicroMasters programs on EdX are courses from top universities that not only can be the first step on the path to an advanced degree, but can also help start a career.
