(Newswire.net — December 13, 2021) Winnetka, IL — There have been studies about sleep revealing its major impacts on overall human health. It is worth noting that research has also shown it is significantly influential on brain health and function.

A study was carried out and published in Nature Communications.

In this research, the investigators tried to look into the manner a fearful memory is formed in relation to a certain visual stimulus.

This research study was carried out by scientists from the University of Michigan. The lead author of this research is graduate student Brittany Clawson.

In this study, it has been found certain groups of neurons activated during prior learning keep humming, and this ends up memories being tattooed in the brain.

They found not only that the neurons, which were activated by the visual stimulus, stayed more active during subsequent sleep, but also the fact that sleep is also essential to their ability to build a connection between fear memory and sensory event.

In previous studies, it has been shown that brain regions are highly active while intensive learning has a tendency to exhibit more activity during subsequent sleep. However, it has remained unclear whether this memory reactivation during sleep requires to happen in order to completely store the memory of newly learned material.

“Part of what we wanted to understand was whether there is communication between parts of the brain that are mediating the fear memory and the specific neurons mediating the sensory memory that the fear is being tied to. How do they talk together, and must they do so during sleep?” Sara Aton asked.

Anton is the senior author of the study and a professor in the U-M Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.

“We would really like to know what’s facilitating that process of making a new association, like a particular set of neurons, or a particular stage of sleep,” she added.

Scientists now actually have the tools useful in genetically tagging cells that are activated by an experienced in a specific window of time.

In this research, the investigators created a visual memory test to concentrate on a specific set of neurons in the primary visual cortex.

More studies are still being carried out to explore more of the ways to enhance sleep. The good news is that there are many helpful ways to improve slumber, and one involves the use of a medicinal herb called ashwagandha.

Various research studies carried out in the past have shown that intake of this remedy is helpful in achieving sleep quality and quantity. What makes it all the more beneficial is that it is actually found useful for brain health.

It may be obtained through the use of formulas like NutraHerbals Ashwagandha. (http://www.amazon.com/organic-ashwagandha-root-powder/dp/B01GZALWGO)
