(Newswire.net — December 10, 2021) Orlando, FL — Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on the quality of life and health of people around the globe, in addition to taking more and more lives on a daily basis.

A study was carried out and published in JACC Cardiovascular Imaging.

In this research, it has been found that mild Covid-19 is highly unlikely to produce lasting damage to the function or structure of the heart.

This study was spearheaded by UCL (University College London) researchers and funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Barts Charity.

It involved 149 healthcare workers from Barts Health and Royal Free London NHS Trusts and it is the largest and most detailed study to date into mild Covid-19 infection and its longer-term effect on the heart.

It is worth noting that severe hospitalized Covid-19 infections are actually linked with blood clots, mild infections, and inflammation of the heart and heart damage.

Scientists identified participants with mild Covid-19 from the COVIDsortium, which is a study in three London hospitals. The healthcare workers involved had undergone weekly samples of saliva, blood, and nasal swabs for 16 weeks.

After six months of mild infection, the investigators looked into the heart structure and function through their analysis on the MRI scans of the healthcare workers with prior mild Covid-19. It was then compared to the scans of 75 healthy age, sex, and ethnicity matched controls who had not previously been infected.

They found no difference in the size or amount of muscle of the left ventricle or its ability to pump blood out of the heart. The left ventricle is the main chamber of the heart responsible for pumping blood around the body.

Further, it has been shown that scarring in the heart, amount of inflammation, and the elasticity of the aorta remained similar between the two groups.

More and more studies are looking into the various aspects of heart health and how it can be protected better. Researchers have time and again said that making dietary and lifestyle improvements is key to having a healthy heart.

Some nutrients like B vitamins are also found to be particularly advantageous to heart health. Studies have shown these nutrients may protect the heart and other aspects of health. It is obtained widely today through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex.
