Air Pollution Exposure Found to Increase Violent Crime Rates

(Newswire.net — December 22, 2021) Orlando, FL — The negative health effects of air pollution continue to hit the headlines. In a study, it appeared that it does more than wreak havoc on health.

Research reveals that breathing dirty aid increases one’s propensity to be aggressive.

This study was authored by Colorado State University researchers in economics, atmospheric science, and statistics.

The research team has particularly found strong associations between short-term air pollution exposure and aggressive behavior, which came in the form of aggravated assaults and some other violent crimes in the U.S.

This study was based on the daily Federal Bureau of Investigation crime statistics and an eight-year, detailed map of daily U.S. air pollution.

Its findings were published in the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.

Jesse Burkhardt, assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, s the lead author of the paper who teamed up with fellow economist Jude Bayham in the same department; Ander Wilson in the Department of Statistics; and several air pollution experts in civil engineering and atmospheric science.

It is worth noting that air pollution scientists usually measure pollution rates through ozone concentrations as well as of “PM2.5,” or breathable particulate matter 2.5 microns in diameter or smaller. It is worth noting it has documented associations with health effects.

The findings have particularly shown that a 10 microgram-per-cubic-meter increase in PM2.5 exposure on the same day is linked with a 1.4 percent increase in violent crimes, almost all of which is driven by crimes categorized as assaults.

“We’re talking about crimes that might not even be physical — you can assault someone verbally,” co-author Bayham said.

“The story is, when you’re exposed to more pollution, you become marginally more aggressive, so those altercations — some things that may not have escalated — do escalate.”

Scientists continue to carry out research studies to look into the disease-causing effects of air pollution.

It is worth stressing that aside from polluted air, humans are also highly exposed to toxins on a daily basis. This is due to the fact that water, food, and a wide selection of products people use today contain chemicals and toxins.

It can be helpful to have a body detox to reduce the toxic burden, and one of the ways to do it is to use a natural remedy called activated charcoal. This all-natural ingredient has long been linked with a myriad of health benefits and is widely studied by researchers.

It is popularly obtained today through the use of supplements like Divine Bounty Activated Charcoal. (https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Activated-Charcoal-Capsules-Whitening/dp/B071NZ5G56)
