Research Warns Against Link Between Obesity and Increased UTI Risk

(Newswire.net — March 28, 2022) Orlando, FL — Obesity has long been linked with a myriad of health issues. In a study, it has been found to increase the odds of urinary tract infections.

According to experts, this infection is quite common in women and this is due to the fact that they have a shorter urethra. More than half of all women are estimated to have experienced a UTI in their lifetimes.

It is believed that 80 percent to 90 percent of UTI cases are caused by escherichia coli. In the United States, UTIs is quite common.

The study has shown that as body mass increases, the person’s risk of UTI is also elevated.

This research carried out by Baltimore researchers was presented at the 104th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA).

Scientists assessed insurance claims of 95,962 subjects in a span of more than five years from 2002 to 2006. It was for the purpose of identifying whether obesity is linked with a UTI diagnosis.

The findings have shown that as BMI increased, the likelihood of being diagnosed with a UTI also soared. It is worth noting that the link was strongest for morbidly obese individuals.

“The effect of the obesity epidemic in the United States transcends any one medical specialty or condition,” said Anthony Y. Smith, MD, an AUA spokesman.

“Patients with elevated body mass index should be vigilant about urologic health because even the most simple of urinary tract infections can be deadly if left untreated.”

Today, the demand and use of antibiotics continue to increase due to the high prevalence of UTIs. While it is undeniable that this type of medication is useful, it can also produce serious side effects. Health authorities continue to stress the relevance of taking some measures helpful in warding off the infection.

By preventing its onset, it is possible to reduce or eliminate the need for antibiotics. D-mannose, which is a sugar that can be found in cranberry, may be an excellent choice.

Over the years, researchers have been looking into the effects of D-mannose for urinary health protection. Studies have shown it could help fight the infection.

Today, it is obtained widely through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty D-mannose. This amazing supplement is pure and highly potent and even had added ingredients like cranberry and dandelion.

Divine Bounty D-mannose is even used today as a safer alternative to antibiotics. What makes it all the more beneficial is that it comes with a money-back guarantee. (www.amazon.com/D-Mannose-600mg-Cranberry-Dandelion-Extract/dp/B01LX5KGF0)
