(Newswire.net — April 19, 2022) Orlando, FL — Due to the increasing prevalence of depression, the use of certain medications like antidepressants has also increased.

Statistics warn that over 300 million individuals on a global scale struggle from depression. It is further worth noting that between 2005 and 2015, it has been found the rate of this condition increased by over 18 percent.

The US insurer Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) reveals that American diagnosis of major depression has risen by 33 percent since 2013. Meanwhile, there are 260 million Americans who suffer from anxiety disorders.

The staggering rates of this mental health issue are also alarming among millennials, 47 percent of which are affected. Further, it is the top cause of ill health and disability worldwide.

Experts warn that while antidepressants are helpful, it is vital to not end up overdosing from these medications. When an overdose occurs, it usually leads to vomiting, nausea, and blurred vision.

Overdosing can mean taking too much of the medication or someone else’s pills. It is also more likely to happen if the use of this type of medication is combined with alcohol or other prescription or illicit drugs.

In a report in 2017, it has been found that tricyclic antidepressants were among the top 25 medications linked with the highest number of deaths from overdose.

Aside from the mild symptoms of antidepressant overdose, there are also severe ones like shaking, rapid heartbeat, seizures, hallucinations, cardiac arrest, and even coma. Serious cases may even lead to death, experts warn.

It is important to realize that depression is a serious condition that needs to be timely and properly addressed. It is similarly worth mentioning that this mental health issue, as some studies suggest, maybe potentially prevented.
