A Study Shows Air Pollution Speeds Up Aging of the Lungs

(Newswire.net — April 25, 2022) Orlando, FL — Health authorities have long been stressing the relevance of taking some measures that could be helpful in protecting and enhancing lung health.

According to experts, there are various factors found to contribute to the deterioration of the lungs, and these include environmental pollution.

A study was carried out and published in European Respiratory Journal.

In this study, which involved over 300,000 individuals, it has been found that outdoor air pollution exposure is associated with reduced lung function. Further, it is also linked with the increased odds of developing the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

It is worth noting that over the years, this long-term condition called COPD is correlated with lessened lung function. This particularly pertains to inflammation in the lungs as well as the narrowing of the airways, causing breathing difficulties.

According to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) project, this condition called COPD is the third leading cause of death worldwide.

Further, it expects an increase in the number of global COPD deaths over the next ten years.

The study findings suggest that air pollution may not just contribute to the aging process, but is also harmful to the lungs.

One of the researchers is Anna Hansell, Professor of Environmental Epidemiology in the Centre for Environmental Health and Sustainability at the University of Leicester, UK.

“There are surprisingly few studies that look at how air pollution affects lung health. To try and address this, we assessed more than 300,000 people using data from the UK Biobank study to examine whether air pollution exposure was linked to changes in lung function and whether it affected participants’ risk of developing COPD,” Hansell says.

It is worth noting that in this study, the types of pollutants included particulate matter (PM10), fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). These are usually produced by burning fossil fuels from the car and other vehicle exhausts, industrial emissions, and power plants.

Air pollution is undeniably detrimental to health, and this is why it is vital to reduce exposure to it. There are also many other ways to take better care of the lungs, such as making dietary and lifestyle improvements.

There are even plant-based, all-natural remedies found to be particularly helpful for lung health. These include the use of all-natural remedies like curcumin, which is a phytochemical that can be found in turmeric.

To benefit from its use, it is wise to take into account the use of formulas like VitaBreeze Curcumin (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
