Obesity Found to Accelerate Disability Among Ra Sufferers

(Newswire.net — May 5, 2022) Orlando, FL — Rheumatoid arthritis is a debilitating condition that is highly prevalent today. It is worth mentioning that aside from causing symptoms, scientists also carry out studies to learn more about the factors that worsen disability linked with it.

A study was published in the Arthritis Care & Research, which is an official journal of the American College of Rheumatology and the Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals.

In this research, it has been found that in adults with rheumatoid arthritis, severe obesity appeared to exhibit rapidly progressing disability compared to being overweight. Further, weight loss following enrollment was also linked with worsening disability, possibly as a sign of frailty.

The study was carried out by Joshua Baker, MD, MSCE, of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and his colleagues.

They looked into information involving 23,323 patients with rheumatoid arthritis from the National Data Bank of the Rheumatic Diseases and 1697 from the Veterans Affairs RA registry.

In addition to severe obesity linked with more rapid disability progression, the study findings have also shown those who were able to lose weight seemed to become disabled more quickly. It was particularly observed in individuals who were already thin.

This means that those who lose weight without even trying may exhibit poor prognostic signs, particularly if they are already thin. The study findings may encourage doctors to look into unintentional weight loss as a poor prognostic sign.

Experts have long been stressing the relevance of considering various factors to reduce the impacts of rheumatoid arthritis, in addition to taking some preventive measures against it.

In some studies, researchers have stressed the relevance of using certain natural ingredients like ashwagandha. This multipurpose herb has long been reputed to have the ability to ease arthritis symptoms.

In Ayurvedic medicine, arthritis has been found to be associated with the gut. Certain irregular food habits are thought to trigger toxin formation in the gut. When this happens, it affects the soft tissues and the joints which leads to inflammatory and obstructive processes.

Ashwagandha, through its immunomodulatory, adaptogenic, anti-stress, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects could aid in alleviating RA pain.

A study has even shown ashwagandha has anti-arthritic activity due to its analgesic action. It has even been found to work better in fighting inflammation compared to a certain medication.

The scientific community continues to investigate the remarkable healing goodness of this natural remedy. Formulas like Divine Bounty Ashwagandha may be useful for individuals who want to benefit from this herb’s healing effects (amazon.com/Organic-Ashwagandha-Capsules-Absorption-Ashwaganda/dp/B072KFLL6X).
