Study Shows Daily Avocado Intake Benefits the Gut

(Newswire.net — May 25, 2022) Orlando, FL — Fruits have long been a popular subject of research due to their strong medicinal benefits. This type of food is usually loaded with a range of therapeutic agents and is thought to work wonders in fighting a range of diseases.

One of these fruits is avocado, which is known for the high amounts of dietary fiber and monounsaturated fat it contains. There have been many studies that looked into the healing goodness of this fruit.

A study was carried out and published in the Journal of Nutrition.

It was spearheaded by Sharon Thompson, a graduate student in the Division of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Illinois.

The study findings have shown that consumption of avocado every day aids in enhancing gut health.

“We know eating avocados helps you feel full and reduces blood cholesterol concentration, but we did not know how it influences the gut microbes, and the metabolites the microbes produce,” says Thompson.

The results of this research also suggest that individuals who consumed the fruit on a daily basis as part of a meal actually had high levels of gut microbes. This is beneficial considering that these microbes work in breaking down fiber as well as producing metabolites that offer support to gut health.

What makes the findings even more beneficial is that it has also shown greater microbial diversity than those who did not eat avocado meals in the study.

“Microbial metabolites are compounds the microbes produce that influence health,” Thompson says.

“Avocado consumption reduced bile acids and increased short-chain fatty acids. These changes correlate with beneficial health outcomes” she adds.

It is worth noting this research included 163 adults between 25 and 45 years of age. While the subjects were overweight or obese, they were healthy.

There are many ways to protect and improve gut health. It is important to keep in mind that in these troubling times of global health crisis, it is vital to ensure the gut stays in shape.

This is due to the fact that gut health has a strong influence on the immune system. When immune system health is strengthened, the body is better able to fight the potentially deadly impacts of Covid-19.

Aside from consuming avocados, some supplements like Divine Bounty Digestive Enzymes may be helpful. This extra-strength formula is crafted carefully according to strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines to help consumers achieve better gut health.
