New Study Warns Insomnia Is Linked the Increased Heart Disease

(Newswire.net — June 14, 2022) Orlando, FL — More and more experts are warning against sleep problems like insomnia, which has been associated with the increased risk of certain diseases. These include one of the most prevalent conditions called heart disease.

A study was published in the Circulation, which is the journal of the American Heart Association.

In this study, it has been found that individuals who suffer from insomnia may have a heightened risk of coronary artery disease, stroke, and heart failure.

It is worth noting that according to statistics, a condition called coronary heart disease is the top cause of death worldwide. It is so deadly that it is estimated to claim the lives of 3.8 million men and 3.4 million women every year.

Experts warn that insomnia affects about 30 percent of the general population. In previous observational studies, scientists found a link between insomnia and the heightened risk of stroke and heart disease.

According to Susanna Larsson, Ph.D., these observational studies were unable to determine whether insomnia is a cause, or if it is just associated with them.

Larsson is the lead study author and associate professor of cardiovascular and nutritional epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.

Scientists particularly revealed that genetic variants for insomnia were linked with a significantly increased likelihood of heart failure, ischemic stroke especially large artery stroke, and coronary artery disease.

Health officials have long been stressing the relevance of getting adequate sleep.

Aside from sleep, there are many other important factors to consider in keeping the heart-healthy. It is worth noting that some natural remedies like Rhodiola Rosea scientists found helpful for cardiovascular well-being.

This herb is widely known for its stress-relieving benefits. This natural remedy has been found to have anti-inflammatory effects, which are essential in fighting heart disease.

Russian scientists carried out a study to see the effects of Rhodiola on the blood levels of CRP and creatine kinase (CK). It is worth mentioning that CK is an enzyme that can be found abundantly in skeletal muscles, as well as the brain and heart.

It is further important to note that creatine kinase plays a major role in cellular energy metabolism. This is due to its ability to catalyze the production of a certain molecule called phosphocreatine.

Experts say this molecule is one of the principal sources of energy for muscle contraction. There is usually an increase in the levels of both CRP and CK during strenuous physical activity.

When this happens, it leads to some degree of inflammatory muscle damage that Rhodiola Rosea can suppress. More studies are still being encouraged to explore the heart health benefits of Rhodiola deeper.
