(Newswire.net — July 27, 2022) Orlando, FL — Health experts have long been recommending regular exercise to maintain overall health. It is worth keeping in mind that there are many impacts of physical activity or having a sedentary lifestyle.

A large US study was carried out and published online in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

In this research, the investigators reveal an association between physical inactivity and a more severe Covid-19 infection and death.

The research involved patients with Covid-19 who were consistently sedentary during the 2 years preceding the pandemic. They have been found to be more likely to be admitted to the hospital compared to patients who were able to consistently satisfy physical activity guidelines.

Researchers were looking into the possible effect of exercise on the severity of the infection. In doing this, they compared the outcomes of hospital admission rates, need for intensive care, and death in 48,440 adults with confirmed COVID-19 infection between January and October 2020.

Further, the average age of patients was 47 and almost two-thirds or 62 percent were women. Further, the average weight (BMI) was 31, which is classified as obese.

Around half of the participants were without underlying conditions, such as diabetes, COPD, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and cancer. Further, nearly 1 in 5 or 18 percent had only one and almost a third or 32 percent had two or more.

All of the subjects reported their regular physical activity level at least three times in between March 2018 and March 2020 at outpatient clinics.

Some 7 percent consistently met physical activity guidelines and 15 percent were consistently inactive, with the remainder reporting some activity. Those who were sedentary were more than twice susceptible to hospital admission compared to those who clocked up 150+ minutes of physical activity every week.

Today, an increasing number of studies are looking into the factors that influence Covid-19 severity. Experts are also increasingly investigating the ways to better combat its dangerous impacts.

It is strongly recommended to manage a strong immune system as it is vital in reducing Covid-19 severity.

There are nutrients like B vitamins found to be useful in boosting the body’s defenses. Years of research have shown that these vitamins exert certain mechanisms to benefit the immune system.
