A New Study Shows Osteoarthritis Biomarker May Help 300 Million People Worldwide

(Newswire.net — September 14, 2022) Orlando, FL — More and more people are struggling with painful and incurable conditions like osteoarthritis. Scientists are also increasingly carrying out studies to look into the remedies potentially helpful for sufferers.

A study introduces the use of new state-of-the-art imaging techniques in identifying signs of osteoarthritis (OA).

It was carried out by UniSA scientists who are learning more about changes at the molecular level indicative of the severity of cartilage damage.

This research was spearheaded by Ph.D. student Olivia Lee and her supervisor Associate Professor Paul Anderson.

Through the use of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), researchers were able to map complex sugars on OA cartilage. It revealed that different sugars are linked with damaged tissue compared to healthy tissue.

The results of this study may help overcome one of the major challenges of osteoarthritis research, and it is to identify why cartilage degrades at different rates in the body.

“Despite its prevalence in the community, there is a lot about osteoarthritis that we don’t understand,” Prof Anderson says.

“It is one of the most common degenerative joint diseases, yet there are limited diagnostic tools, few treatment options, and no cure.”

It is worth noting that existing OA biomarkers are still largely focused on bodily fluids, which are neither sensitive nor reliable enough to map every change in cartilage damage.

Over 300 million people around the globe suffer from osteoarthritis, and those aged 45 years and older are at the most risk. There are other risk factors, such as being overweight or female and having existing joint injuries.

This is why many athletes are making efforts to strengthen and protect their joint health, such as through the use of an amino sugar called glucosamine.

Researchers have been carrying out studies to look into the impacts of this remedy on joint cartilage health and protection.

Glucosamine has been found to work by repairing joint cartilage damage, making it extremely helpful in cases of osteoarthritis. Further, this remedy is also helpful for pain relief, and this is due to its anti-inflammatory effects.

Today, an increasing number of individuals suffering from arthritis are turning to the use of extra-strength supplements like VitaBreeze Glucosamine. This amazing formula is made carefully to deliver superior-quality glucosamine.

Aside from glucosamine, it also has chondroitin, MSM, and turmeric. What makes it all the more beneficial is that it is made carefully in an FDA-inspected facility in the U.S (https://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Chondroitin-Turmeric-Dietary-Supplement/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
