New Study Sheds Light on Women’s Susceptibility to Autoimmune Diseases

(Newswire.net — November 15, 2022) Orlando, FL — Autoimmune diseases can affect pretty much everyone, and their rates actually continue to skyrocket in many areas around the world today. They have further been found to be particularly common in women.

To find out why these diseases affect women more, experts carry out a study. According to researchers, autoimmune diseases like lupus tend to be nine times more prevalent in women than in men.

A team of scientists from the University of Michigan revealed that women have more levels of VGLL3 in their skin cells compared to men.

The investigators revealed that having too much of this molecular switch triggers the immune system into overdrive. This results in a self-attacking autoimmune response. It is further worth mentioning that the response may also affect more than the skin as it can attack internal organs too.

According to Johann Gudjonsson, M.D., Ph.D., VGLL3 appears to regulate immune response genes that have been implicated as important to autoimmune diseases that are more common in women, but that doesn’t appear to be regulated by sex hormones.

Gudjonsson spearheaded the study and is a professor of dermatology at the U-M Medical School.

The researchers highlight the fact that VGLL3 tends to set off a cascade of events in the skin that cause an immune system response, despite the absence of a trigger to defend against.

More studies are still being encouraged to explore more of the various aspects of autoimmune diseases. While the number of people struggling with these conditions increases, more and more experts are also carrying out studies to find some remedies for battling them.

A powerful antioxidant called resveratrol may be helpful. This polyphenol can be found in red wine but can also be obtained via supplementation.

According to researchers, resveratrol has the ability to stimulate SIRT1 production. It is worth noting that the SIRT1 is a serum that speeds up the mitochondria, which is the energy production of the cells.

Through this activity, it is able to block diseases. Research has even demonstrated resveratrol works wonders in delaying the progression of autoimmune diseases. These include conditions like psoriasis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease.

As a powerful free radical scavenger, it also neutralizes molecules known to damage cells and promotes premature aging. It is particularly found to aid in balancing the immune response, especially in cases where the immune system is overactive or suppressed.

In addition to its ability to fight autoimmune diseases, resveratrol has also long been widely studied for various medicinal purposes. One of the best ways to obtain its healing goodness is to use Divine Bounty Resveratrol (https://www.amazon.com/Resveratrol-Supplement-Strength-Extract-capsules/dp/B019C0UU5S).
