Scientists Warn Against Link In Between OA Risk and Finger Length Ratio

(Newswire.net — December 6, 2022) Orlando, FL — Doctors and health experts have long been stressing the importance of protecting joint health. According to these experts, there are many dietary and lifestyle modifications helpful in enhancing joint cartilage protection.

Scientists now warn against the link in between the risk of osteoarthritis and finger length ratio. This new University of Nottingham research that involved more than 2,000 people has particularly revealed individuals with index finger shorter than their ring finger are at higher risk of osteoarthritis.

It is worth noting that index to ring finger length ratio (referred to as 2D:4D) is a trait known for its differences between the sexes. While men typically have shorter second than fourth digits, these fingers in women tend to be about equal in length.

Smaller 2D:4D ratios have intriguing hormonal connections, and these include reduced oestrogen concentrations, higher prenatal testosterone levels, and higher sperm counts. A decrease in this ratio has also been correlated with athletic and sexual prowess.

It has, however, remained unexamined whether such a trait impacts the risk of osteoarthritis.

Researchers at The University of Nottingham carried out a case-control study to evaluate the relationship between the 2D: 4D ratio and the odds of developing knee and hip OA.  More particularly, it involved 2,049 case subjects recruited from hospital orthopaedic surgery lists and a rheumatology clinic in Nottingham.

“The 2D:4D length ratio appears to be a new risk factor for the development of OA. Specifically, women with the ‘male’ pattern of 2D:4D length ratio — that is, ring finger relatively longer than the index finger — are more likely to develop knee OA,” Professor Michael Doherty, lead researcher said.

Time and again researchers have highlighted there are various measures found to be particularly beneficial for individuals suffering from osteoarthritis. Some amino sugars like glucosamine have long been used in battling symptoms of this condition.

It has been found to work in reducing arthritis pain and boosting the mobility of arthritis sufferers. Glucosamine has long been popularized by its ability to repair damaged joint cartilage. Superior-strength and carefully-crafted formulas like Divine Bounty Glucosamine are increasingly popular today as a source of this remedy.

This formula is crafted carefully in an FDA-inspected facility in the U.S. In addition to offering 2000 mg of superior-quality glucosamine per serving, it is also equipped with methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). These two ingredients working together deliver joint health support and protection.
