Get Paid to Travel: A Solution for the Budget Traveler

A laptop and a backpack are really all one needs these days to live the dream.  That is, of course, if your dream consists of living in dorm-style hostels, traveling by bus, and seeing parts of the world that most Americans can’t find on a map.   In this writer’s ongoing quest for a solution to living a permanent nomadic lifestyle, no stone is left unturned.

If you consider yourself a backpacker or budget traveler, then you must have considered the possibility of living on the road permanently.  Your back is strong enough for an old mattress, your sleep sound enough to share a room with 6 snoring strangers, and your stomach is strong enough to take months of cheap street vendor food.  You know how to stretch a dollar, but the problem is a dollar won’t stretch forever.  You are eventually going to need another dollar, so how does one get paid to travel?

My weekly search for the answer to this question yielded new hope with the discovery of the site: BackpackForever.com.  Backpack Forever is a budget traveler’s dream as it allows anyone to make money traveling by simply sharing their daily travel experiences with the world.

The idea behind the site is simple.  Budget travelers record their knowledge about a particular destination, hostel, restaurant, or anything else travel related and post it to BackpackForever.com.  For every piece of content added to the site, the writer chooses the banner ads they want to appear alongside their writing (for example, a Lonely Planet South America ad to go alongside their article about Machu Picchu).  All content is reviewed by an editor, and is then published to the site.  As ad revenues roll in, the traveler who contributed their knowledge receives monthly payments to their PayPal account.
