(Newswire.net — January 24, 2013) Boise, ID –The local job market is getting better in Boise, as is the local economy.  According to Brookings.edu, Boise, ID is currently standing at 5th in the nation for recovering cities.  Even with such impressive growth and recovery, it is an employer’s market when it comes to finding a job here in Boise.

I spoke with Jerry Smith, owner of Treasure Valley Sew and Vac and treasurevalleysewandvac.com, about his experiences with opening his own sewing machine and vacuum repair business in Boise.  He said, “When I retired, I was forced into it early because it was incredibly hard to find a job at 60 something years old.  I basically retired early and started doing my own thing.”  Since retiring, Jerry has used his time building up his hobby and love of repairing sewing machines for other retirees into a full time business.  He says he is busier now than he has ever been before, but this time he makes the rules.

“If you can’t find someone that will hire you to work for them, hire yourself and start a business doing something you enjoy.  There’s never been a better time to take a chance.”  Jerry says about his choice to open his own business.  It took him a few years and some rocky times to get where he is now, but he says he is happy and busy in his retirement and he gets to help people out by charging way less than his competitors because he can.  It’s his rules, and his choice to charge less

You can find Jerry and Treasure Valley Sew and Vac located inside The Boise Flea Mart, a not for profit indoor flea mart/thrift store.  He is one of their first vendors and biggest contributors.
