Old Town Editions Leads Effort To Save TC Williams High School Printing Program

(Newswire.net – February 1, 2013) Alexandria, VA – Old Town Editions, a local Fine Art Print Making Studio, is leading an effort to save the printing program at TC Williams High School.

At the end of the 2013-2014 school year, the TC Williams High School print program will be shut down due to lack of funds needed to update the material and equipment in the printing department.  The print program has been in existence for more than thirty years.  It inspired the creation of brands like Infinity, Hobo, and Players World.   

Rachel Baron and Pat McMahon, owners of Old Town Editions, are leading an effort to raise awareness and the funds needed to save the printing program. Bob Trout, head of the printing program at TC Williams says, “Administrators just do not believe there are jobs in the printing industry to keep the program going”. McMahon says, “Vocational programs like this one keep students interested in learning and give them valuable skills needed to enter the workforce.”  McMahon also said, that “Students and teachers at TC Williams are not happy about the closure of the print program.”

Both Baron and McMahon are trying to garner support from local businesses and the community to help save the program.  In addition to providing training opportunities for TC William students, Old Town Editions is in talks with paper vendors and companies like Canon and Epson to get equipment donated.  Their goal is to raise enough money and awareness to make the program solvent for the 2013-2014 school year until long term funding can be established.
