(Newswire.net – February 8, 2013) Los Angeles, CA – For about six million couples, Valentine’s Day is going to be more than just a nice romantic dinner.  According to the latest American Express Spending and Saving Tracker consumer report there are going to be six million proposals on February 14, 2013.  This is up from a mere four million on Valentine’s Day 2012.

The total number of engagements planned for all of 2013 is 14 million.  This means 43 percent of all wedding proposals will be taking place at a romantic spot on this Valentine’s Day.  If you and your date are fortunate enough to get out to a nice restaurant this February 14, take a look around.  There is good chance someone nearby you is popping the question.

Other interesting data collected by this report include:

  • Average cost of an engagement ring:  $2,410.
  • 83% of couples will be spending an average of $260 on Valentine’s Day gifts.  A significant increasing from last year’s average of $196.  Men spending an average of $272, and women $209.
  • Most popular gifts:  57% greeting cards; 32% flowers; 17% jewelry (Where’s the candy?)
  • 62% of couples will be making some type of virtual Valentine’s Day wish – 34% will send a text; 33% will post or send a Facebook message; 26% will send an email; and 22% will send an e-card.
  • 30% of women in relationships feel that V-Day is overrated.

As for actually tying the knot on Valentine’s Day, Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk for the first time is now taking appointments for that special day.  “This is the first year we are accepting appointments on Valentine’s Day. We implemented this system to accommodate the demand. We have seen significant interest in this special day.  In addition to accepting appointments, we are offering ceremonies at all six branches across Los Angeles”, said Dean C. Logan, the county’s Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

So why not get it all done in one day?  For those guys who are pretty sure they know the answer to that big question, make your appointment now and make it an extra special day. That way future Valentine Days will take care of two anniversaries and the Valentine’s celebration all in one shot!

What can I say?  I’m thinking like a guy.
