(Newswire.net — February 25, 2013) Litchfield Park, AZ — The Show Me the Music Songwriting Contest recently announced its grand prize winner for 2012. The winner was songwriter Morgan Taylor Reid, who impressed the judges with his composition “Stay Where You Are.” Reid was awarded the $10,000 cash grand prize and was humbled by the recognition from his peers in the industry. Shortly after accepting the grand prize, Reid explained his motivation for entering the Show Me the Music contest by saying, “While writing and producing music for other artists is a dream job for me, my first real passion is creating my own music. I’m so happy to have won the Show Me the Music songwriting contest because it’s such a pleasant reminder that there are still people out there who appreciate music from independent artists like me.”

The Show Me the Music Songwriting Contest was founded in 2009 to recognize up and coming songwriters and is open to anyone willing to submit an original song to the selection committee. Songwriters love the contest because it allows them to gain visibility in the music industry and gain valuable access to industry leaders. As Reid put it, “I’m so appreciative that there is a contest out there that acknowledges songwriters. It gives me the motivation to keep pushing on, and creating the ‘art’ in an industry that sometimes can feel like it’s all about the ‘business’.”

The 2013 songwriting contest is set to launch on March 1, 2013 and interested songwriters can visit the Show Me the Music Songwriting Contest website to register to receive information about the launch of the next competition. Contestants can enter a song for a nominal entry fee of $20 for each song and the grand prize winner will have the choice of accepting $10,000 cash or an alternate prize of $5,000 cash plus a recording session in Nashville, Tennessee.
