(Newswire.net — March 30, 2013) Crested Butte, CO — An internet survey asked an elite global adventurer community to choose the “Coolest Guy in Antarctica” from candidates exhibiting creative vision and compassionate humanitarian attitude sharing wisdom gained from adventuring.

Asked about their choice naming J.B. Schag as Coolest Guy in Antarctica participants cited many years offering zero-net-profit scuba lessons to college students, Climb-Your-First-Mountain motivational training for executives and Schag’s work assisting native communities where global adventures have taken him.

“One day I realized if I have a helicopter we are using for an adventure I can also use it for an external load mission transporting farming implements to a developing community. When I arrive a day earlier than my clients I can spend that day teaching kids how to read, farmers about chemistry or entrepreneurs the path to success.”

“Beautiful but deadly,” is how extreme sports instructor, professional guide and global explorer J.B. Schag describes Antarctica. “Just walking around can be an extreme activity there, which makes it a “J.B.” kind of place, a place where I can relax into the peaceful concentration of survival mode and escape the din of modern living,” said Schag when asked for his impressions of the coolest continent after being named Coolest Guy in Antarctica.

Scuba, ice climbing, ultralights, paragliding, snowmobiles, extreme skiing, kayaking. Antarctica is a paradise for an extreme sports master like Schag.

“My whole life the drive towards adventure has come from wonderment alone. I stand at the base of a mountain and wonder what it would be like to stand on the summit, so I go. I see the fin of a whale shark so I jump overboard to witness the majesty. I watch the eagles soaring in the thermals, so I jump off the cliff in the hang glider and hope for a flying lesson,” said Schag when asked why people like him do what they do.

“Magellan, Shackleton, Messner, Hornbein, Chouinard, Saudan, Killy, McKinney, Cousteau, Todisco, Lopez, Hannifin, Yaeger, Skadal. Those are my heroes, geographical adventurers all, but we shouldn’t forget conceptual adventurers like Galileo, Humboldt, Darwin, Faraday, Boltzmann, Planck, Einstein, Gibbs and Greene.”

“Kanyeshna, I was surprised about Coolest Guy in Antarctica. I didn’t even know about the survey. But I’m pleased to have earned a modicum of respect from my peers in the Beyond Vertical community,” said Schag.

“I never could get any warm water buddies from Hawaii or Mexico to Alaska or Northern California much less Antarctica. Maybe Coolest Guy in Antarctica will motivate them to expand their boundaries?”
