(Newswire.net — April 18, 2013) Toulouse, France — Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau, grand dame of American fashion and dubbed “Queen of Prep,” died in her Palm Beach home in Florida, US on Sunday, April 7, 2013. She was 81 years old.

Today’s generation of fashionistas may not be as entirely familiar with the Lilly Pulitzer brand as they are of, say, Marc Jacobs, Burberry or Armani, but anyone with a preppy sense of style would know what a Lilly is. A Lilly is a classic shift dress with bold flower patterns and blindingly bright colors. It became the casual dress of choice of America’s elite. Jackie Kennedy, a former schoolmate of Ms. Pulitzer, was famously photographed wearing a Lilly on vacation while she was still First Lady.

“Ms. Pulitzer proved and continues to prove that even the most serendipitous of ideas will take off and generate massive profits when developed to its fullest potential,” says Fabrice Courdesses, spokesperson for iPhoneAppDevelopmentTips.com, an online resource for iPhone app development.

As the story goes, the original purpose of the Lilly dress was to help Ms. Pulitzer camouflage citrus stains from squeezing orange juice, which she did a lot during the days when she sold orange juice from a stand on Palm Beach. Her customers liked the dress so much that the New York heiress soon began selling them alongside her orange juice products. When sales of her dresses started overtaking her juice sales, Ms. Pulitzer shifted gears and focused on designing a clothing line instead. By 1959, Lilly Pulitzer became president of her own company, had her own lines of casualwear and sportswear, and had stores all over the country. That year saw her Lillys generate some $15 million in profits a year.

“Lilly Pulitzer’s success story is an inspiration,” says Courdesses. “Whether you’re in the fashion industry or in software and iPhone apps development, it’s a story that resonates with all of us.”

“When you have a unique idea that has true potential, you shouldn’t give up on it. You should put effort in developing it, and then see where the idea will take you,” Courdesses states.

According to Courdesses, what worked for Lilly Pulitzer in creating her brand can work with iPhone app developers as well. Ms. Pulitzer did not sew her Lilly dresses. Instead she accessed whatever resources are available to her, such as her personal tailor and dressmaker, and fabric makers from Key West who made her signature brightly colored fabrics with bold flower prints. For iPhone app developers, the Internet is a massive resource that they can tap for information and guides on building their app ideas.

“An idea will take you nowhere if you don’t act on it,” says Courdesses. “It will just stay an idea. But if you realize the potential of the idea, then that’s where the magic and the profits happen.”
