(Newswire.net — May, 14, 2013)  Ft. Myers, FL–According to statistics released by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy (NCPPSP), less than 2% of cats and only 15 to 20% of dogs are returned to their owners after having been left in a shelter. Most of these were identified with tags, tattoos or microchips. To help counter these disheartening statistics, Love My Pets GPS spokesperson Mary Ann McNutt explains how the pet safety collar assists pet owners with recovering their pets.

Says McNutt, “Microchips are a great product, but the bottom line is they simply aren’t enough in the search to locate your lost pet. Typical dog microchips only identify pets, NOT find them. For a lost, microchip-tagged pet to be reunited with you, someone must find your pet and take your pet to a facility with scanning capabilities. After scanning your pet, the facility contacts your service provider, who then contacts you.”

However, the newly introduced Love My Pets GPS Dog Collar system is different. McNutt explains, “Our system puts control back in the searching pet owner’s hands. However, there currently are no gps dog microchips; they are two separate things. A microchip is just an identification tag. The gps locator is often constructed in the animal’s collar. The gps is designed to tell you where your dog is instantly. This suddenly sounds much more exciting and useful than a microchip!”

She continues, saying,”With a microchip, pet owners must wait for someone to find their pet and hope that person will take the animal to a facility that may or may not have the correct type of scanner to determine identification. After the animal is scanned, the facility then contacts the registration service provider, and the service provider then matches the information with the pet owners information and finally contacts the pet owner. But with the LovemypetsGPS Pet Safety Collar, the pet owner can be proactive and is able to immediately locate and track the pet as soon as they realize the pet is lost.”  Using the new Geo Fence option, a pet owner can now receive alerts in real-time, if the pet escapes from a specified geographic zone.

Additional safety measures have been added to this product to keep pets safe. McNutt describes the collar. “Reflective Dog Supplies were a natural addition since a large number of pets are struck by vehicles at night, therefore, the product is banded with a high-quality glow-in-the-dark material so that pets can be seen easily by passing motorists. Even more, the product also features one of the highest reflective qualities on the market, another way to ensure your pet is clearly seen during nighttime hours. The system is a true recipe for safety for your pet.”  More information regarding the new pet safety products can be found on their website:  http://www.lovemypetsgps.com
