(Newswire.net — June 3, 2013) Los Angeles, CA — Danny Dichotomy is set to release their new EP in August. The anticipation of a new EP has been in the air since the drop of the last EP “A New Beginning Love” earlier this year. After speaking with the band, they were very excited to get back into the studio. “We have been working out the dynamics of these songs for months now and it’s time to share it with the world. These songs are nothing like we’ve ever done before; they have more of a folk undertone with elements of the experimental pop sound of our band”.
The opening track “Sea of Pills” definitely falls under the quote description provided by the band above. The song speaks about an old man, about to retire, looking back on his empty work-filled life. Danny describes this sobering scenario like a person on a boat, without a paddle or any sense of direction. The music has a Bob Dylan meets Ray Charles feel, giving it a real high energy with a rustic acoustic backdrop. Truly an older style of music made and created for mass consumption. Yet, the band manages to keep the honesty of the music without degrading the folk genre.
When speaking with Danny about the first track he was more interested about what I thought. After prying enough, he had this to say, “The vast majority of the music is directed to a society that lacks a reflection upon their actions. We get up, drink coffee, sit in traffic and run to work. Never do we question…” Danny assured us that this EP is no exception to the band’s message about the 9-5 struggle.
As usual Danny’s old crooner style cuts through the track like a scalpel taking command of the music. The piano playing of David Espana emulates the stride piano of the 1920’s, giving the music a heavy dose of anticipation. Andres “The Thunder” Rodriguez keeps the drums moving like the speeding “A Train” to a folk destination. The truth is that we can expect a real cutting edge sound from this EP. It will be different, but all the elements that keep its musical integrity remain in place. Fans will be in for a real big surprise.
