Burns suggested that while there are some good online classes, the traditional kitchen classroom still works best for training cooks. “Online classes can be very good for showing specific things, such as dish and recipe preparation,” she said, “But beginning students really need the hands-on approach. They need to develop their kitchen skills and become experts at using knives and the other kitchen tools which they will be using every day.”
Burns also discussed the cost of education, “Good cooking schools, just like traditional colleges, can cost a lot of money. They are not cheap. But one good point for cooking school graduates is that there are always restaurants and kitchens looking for qualified, entry-level chefs. It’s a very practical degree to earn,” Burns concluded.
